Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday inaugurated the state level Khelo Tripura Para Games for the Divyangjan athletes here in a function at Agartala Swami Vivekananda Ground.
The department of Social Welfare and Social Education jointly with the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports has organised the event. The Para Games will continue till December 19.
Addressing the event, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said that the para games play a crucial role in developing the health, body and mind of the Divyangjans. Discipline, diligence, sense of responsibility, sense of duty and patriotism are awakened through sports, he said, adding that various events like cricket, chess, carrom, football etc. will be held for the visually impaired persons in this Tripura Para Games.
He said that the present government is implementing various programs to provide overall benefits and support to the persons with disabilities. The Chief Minister said that so far 35,018 people have been given unique disability identity card.
On the occasion, Minister of Social Welfare and Social Education and Youth Affairs and Sports Department Tinku Roy said that many sports will be held in these two-day Para Games. The state government has implemented various programs to facilitate the disabled. He mentioned that policies have also been adopted to ensure their rights.
