STGT aspirants holds protest near CM’s resident, demands recruitment

AGARTALA:

A large group of unemployed youth who had successfully passed the 2022 Selection Test for Graduate Teachers (STGT) exam took to the streets today, demanding immediate recruitment.

However, before they could reach the Chief Minister’s residence, the police intercepted and arrested them mid-way, transporting them to the AD Nagar police line in a police van.

The job seekers argue that despite a severe shortage of teachers in government schools, the state government has failed to recruit them. A protester told reporters that the demand for recruitment is long-pending, and the government’s inaction has left many qualified candidates without employment.

The agitators pointed out that when they appeared for the STGT exam in 2022, there were only 230 vacant posts. However, recent reports suggest that the state government has identified around 700 vacancies. Given this increase, the protesting candidates are urging the government to recruit all those who cleared the exam in 2022 in a single phase.

The police intervention to halt the protest has sparked widespread concern, with many questioning the administration’s approach to handling the grievances of unemployed youth. The protestors remain firm in their demand and have vowed to continue their movements until their concerns are addressed by the government.
