Ratan Lal Nath, State's Election Minister announced on Thursday that the draft voters' list has reached 28,26,046 as of November 01 marking an increase from the 28,13,418 voters recorded in the last state assembly election. Addressing the media at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala, Minister Nath highlighted that the summary revision for the voters' list commenced on November 01 and will continue until December 06.
During this ongoing process, the Election department is actively encouraging eligible voters to participate in the summary revision and register their names. Minister Nath emphasized that individuals who will turn 18 years old on January 01, 2024 can submit their Form 6. Moreover, youths above 17 years are also allowed to submit their forms with their names being registered upon reaching the age of 18, following verification by the concerned department.
As of the latest update applications through forms 6, 7 and 8 for claims and objections have been submitted totaling 8,593, 4,657 and 15,515 respectively until last Wednesday. Minister Nath underscored the importance of this voters' list updation process, especially with the approaching Lok Sabha polls. The Election department has implemented a quarterly registration system, allowing citizens to register their names on the first of January, April, July, and October.
Minister Nath further informed that the Block Level Officers (BLOs) are playing a crucial role in the preliminary stages before the final publication of the voters' list. Political parties are also actively involved through their Booth Level Agents (BLAs), with sub-divisional level training sessions already underway. This comprehensive update aims to ensure an accurate and up-to-date voters' list in preparation for the upcoming elections.
