Students of NIT College at Jirania in Agartala came out in large number on Thursday in the college campus to show protest against the death of a student, caused allegedly due to the medical negligence by the doctors of the NIT Hospital.
The unrest among the students began on Wednesday night and continued into Thursday morning as students gathered to voice their grievances on the death of the student – Abhijeet panda of IIIT and hails from Hyderabad.
The agitated students stated, “After enduring gross mistreatment at the NIT Agartala hospital. This was not just a loss; it was an unforgivable act of negligence. When Abhijeet experienced excruciating pain in his knee, shoulder, and other joints, an ambulance was not provided. His friends had to carry him in an auto-rickshaw while the Deans smugly claimed that the ambulance service is available 24/7. Conveniently, however, it was unavailable when it was needed most.”
“Upon reaching the highly esteemed NIT Agartala hospital, the so-called doctors merely sprayed some VIOLINI and casually declared, "all is good, just drink ORS." This, despite Abhijeet clearly expressing that he was in severe pain,” they further stated.
Alarmed by the incident of high tensed protest, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury rushed to the college and interacted with the concerned authority of the college. The Minister said that a commission was constituted to enquire the incident and the college authority informed that they shall stand by the family of the deceased student.
