Tension escalated in Charilam after alleged Tipra Motha backed goons reportedly assaulted several people inside Charilam market, who were purportedly BJP workers.
Speaking on the issue, BJP leader Pratik Kishore Dev Varma stated that the BJP and Tipra Motha alliance government is functioning smoothly, but there are individuals attempting to disrupt the peace in the state and create a rift within the alliance.
“In Charilam Assembly Constituency, attempts have been made to incite communal tension. A few days ago in Bishalgarh, a temple was vandalized. Yesterday late at night, Jakir Hossen and his group entered the market armed with sharp weapons. Some are trying to frame this as a political issue, but this individual has been involved in communal activities,” he said.
Pratik claimed that the primary goal is to stir conflict within the alliance.
“Certain antisocial elements are hiding behind political parties and are actively working to provoke unrest. This person assaulted a man and vandalized a vehicle. I am not blaming any political party, but this individual is clearly working to create disturbances. There are no peace talks. We must not provide shelter to such people,” he told reporters.
Meanwhile, Mandal President Rajkumar Debnath mentioned that since 2019, there have been numerous cases against Jakir Hossen, linking him to various criminal activities. “We condemn these actions and demand strict measures against him.”
“They are trying to tarnish the government’s reputation,” he added.
Later today, Pratik, Rajkumar, and several others from Charilam staged a dharna in front of Bishalgarh Police Station, demanding action against Jakir Hossen and filed an FIR with the police.
