The Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan, one of the oldest schools in Tripura, has been repeatedly targeted by thieves and miscreants due to the lack of a boundary wall around its premises. Despite being established years ago, the school authorities have failed to construct a secure perimeter, leaving its property vulnerable.
In the latest incident that occurred last night, a gang of thieves struck the school and made away with a gas pipeline, meter, and other materials from outside the mid-day meal room, though they could not gain entry into the room itself.
"Even though we have night guards, the open access due to no boundary wall has led to multiple theft cases over the years," lamented the school's headmistress.
She further added, "Just a few days ago, pipeline materials worth Rs. 60,000 were stolen, and we had to spend from the student fund to get them repaired."
The recurring thefts have left teachers, staff, and parents increasingly concerned about the security of the school's property and assets.
Last night, around 9 PM, the night guard noticed the gas pipeline had been cut and immediately alerted the headmistress, who then informed the mid-day meal. Later, the gas company workers were called to repair the damaged pipeline, while a complaint was lodged at the West Agartala Police Station.
"The police have assured us that they will look into the matter, but the lack of a boundary wall remains a pressing issue that the administration needs to address urgently to prevent such incidents from happening repeatedly." said the Headmistress.
Adding to the security concerns is the presence of drug peddlers who frequent the open grounds outside the school premises, particularly in the evenings, posing potential risks to the students and staff.
The school authorities have repeatedly raised the issue of constructing a boundary wall with the administration, but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears so far. As the thefts continue to plague the institution, calls are growing louder for immediate action to secure the school's premises and safeguard its assets and the safety of its students and staff.
