THRC disposes 368 cases, Rs 84.88 lakh recommended for compensation

In anticipation of International Human Rights Day on December 10, the State Human Rights Commission in Tripura is gearing up for a dignified celebration to be held in the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan.

In a press conference at the Tripura Human Rights Commission office today, Justice Swapan Chandra Das, the Chairperson of the State Human Rights Commission, announced the details of the event.

He said that Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu is set to inaugurate the program, emphasizing the state's commitment to upholding human rights. The theme for this year's International Human Rights Day celebration is 'Consolidating and Sustaining Human Rights Culture into the Future.'

During the press conference, Justice Swapan Chandra Das highlighted the positive role played by the state government in supporting the decisions of the Human Rights Commission. He stated that 390 complaints had been submitted to the commission until November 30, 2023, with an impressive resolution rate of 368 complaints and recommended to compensate Rs 84.88 lakh to the victims.

Among the dignitaries expected to grace the occasion are Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, Tripura Women's Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Tripura Police Director General Amitabh Ranjan, and Tripura Central University Vice Chancellor Dr. Gangaprasad Prasain. The Human Rights Commission members BK Roy and Subir Chandra Saha, along with Human Rights Commission Secretary Ratan Biswas, were also present at the press conference.
