In a significant operation conducted yesterday night, Jatrapur police station apprehended three individuals, including a notorious drug dealer, and seized 21.5 kg of dry cannabis along with a vehicle. The arrests were made following a tip-off received by the police, leading to a successful interception on Sonamura-Belonia road.
Jatrapur Police Inspector Shyam Shankar Reang identified the prime suspect as Mohammad Hanif Miah, residing in the Kalapaniya Panchayat area under Sonamura Police Station. The other two individuals were named as Abdul Jalil and an unnamed third person, both associated with the Sonapur panchayat area.
Acting on the received information at around 10:00 p.m., the police intercepted a car with the license plate ‘Temporary TO124-TR4801-A’ coming from the north. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 21.5 kg of dry cannabis, commonly known as marijuana. The arrested individuals disclosed during interrogation that the seized contraband was intended for smuggling to Bangladesh, specifically to Jamini Tila in Nirbhaypur Panchayat area.
