Tripura Police on Thursday seized a large cache of contraband items worth over Rs 50 lakh and arrested three individuals in Khowai District.
Speaking on the matter, Teliamura Sub-divisional Police Officer of Khowai District, Panna Lal Sen, stated that they had received a tip-off about a truck carrying a significant consignment of narcotics and heading towards Khowai District.
"We had information that a truck loaded with stone chips was approaching Teliamura, carrying a large quantity of contraband items. Based on this, we deployed security and set up checkpoints. When the vehicle reached Mungiakami, we detained it. In the presence of the Magistrate and other officials, we searched the truck. After unloading the stone chips, we discovered 72 sacks containing 9,900 bottles of Eskuf and Phensedyl. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is around Rs 50 lakh. We have arrested two individuals," he said.
In another operation, DSP Pritam Chanda of Khowai reported that, acting on a tip-off, they detained a vehicle and, upon suspicion, seized 47.5 kg of cannabis.
"We have arrested one Rajani Debbarma. He will be produced before the court, and we will seek police remand for further interrogation," he added.
