As part of Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) an awareness program was organized at Tripura Central University. The program consisted of seminars, cultural programs, quiz and a short play 'Adhikar' staged.
The purpose of organizing the program is to encourage new voters to vote in large numbers. Inaugurating the program, Chief Electoral Officer of the state Kiran Gitte said that India is the largest democratic country in the world. The then the leaders, right from the beginning, voting rights were given to all irrespective of caste, religion, and color in our constitution.
He said that now Indian democratic system has got a strong form where the verdict of voters was accepted peacefully by the political leaders of the country.
“But in many modern countries of the world today, the democratic system is becoming very helpless”, he said.
On this day, he discussed in detail the measures being taken by the Election Commission of India to strengthen the country's democratic system and exercise the voting rights of all citizens.
Chief Electoral Officer Gitte called upon the University authorities to form Civil Services Aspirant Club of the University.
Tripura Central University Vice-Chancellor Gangaprasad Prasain, West Tripura District Magistrate Debapriya Bardhan, Registrar Deepak Sharma, Dean of Students Welfare Dr Somdev Banik were present on the occasion among others. At the end of the program, prizes were distributed to the quiz winners by Chief Electoral Officer and other guests. It should be noted that this program was organized by the initiative of the West District Magistrate's office. Students of Tripura Central University participated in this event in large numbers.
