In a heart-wrenching incident, a truck and a Royal Enfield bike collided head-on in the Noagaon area under Bagbasa police station on Friday night, leading to the tragic demise of both riders.
The accident occurred on the National Highway as the truck with registration number TR 05 D 1806 was heading towards Churaibari from Agartala, while the Royal Enfield bike, bearing the registration AS 11 P 7879, was traveling in the opposite direction towards Agartala from Churaibari. The collision took place after the bikers attempted to overtake another vehicle.
The two riders on the Royal Enfield bike, identified as Umakant Sinha (27), a BSF employee, and Rohit Rajkumar (22), a student, succumbed to their injuries after a 15 to 20-minute struggle for survival at North District Hospital, Dharmanagar. The only evidence of identification found was a driving license belonging to Rohit Rajkumar, hailing from Village Algapur, Silchar, District Cachar, Assam. No further information or proof was recovered.
The truck driver, identified as Apan Nath (26) from Kalikapur, ward number 5, Dharmanagar Mahakuma, North Tripura. The tragic news was confirmed by Uncle Khukumani Sinha, who revealed that Umakant Sinha, his niece, lost her life in the accident while Rohit Rajkumar, a friend, was also a victim.
Umakant Sinha, being a BSF employee, was on duty at the time of the incident. BSF vehicles were dispatched to retrieve her body from Dharmanagar Hospital.
