The transports workers bodies in Tripura under the aegis of the state committee of the CITU and on call of the All India Road Transports Federation on Thursday staged protest here at Agartala infront of the TNGCL office against the price rise of both CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and PNG (Piped Natural Gas), which came into effect from November 20 last in the state of Tripura.
According to the revised price, CNG prices in West Tripura hiked from Rs 75.41 per kg to Rs 75.91 per kg. In other districts, the price of CNG increased from Rs 79.99 per kg to Rs 80.49 per kg. Similarly, the price of PNG has gone up from Rs 38.55 per standard cubic meter (SCM) to Rs 39.05 per SCM.
Five-member representatives of the transport workers bodies on Thursday submitted a deputation with the Managing Director of the TNGCL here at Agartala and demanded the government to withdraw the decision of the price rise of the CNG and PNG.
CITU leader Amal Chakraborty, who led the protest and deputation programnme, had slammed the ruling BJP government in Tripura and said that since its takeover in the year 2018, prices of daily essentials including the price of cooking gas cylinders, CNG and PNG has been rising gradually.
The recent rise in price of CNG and PNG has brought an additional burden for the transport workers, who are already suffering from multiple issues due to the anti-worker policy of the BJP government, he told reporters.
