The Tripura Legislative Assembly on Wednesday passed as many as three bills including the crucial ‘Mata Tripura Sundari Open University Tripura Bill 2024’, which proposes to set up an open university in the state.
“This open university in Tripura will play a vital role in vocational education for students,” CM Dr Saha said, adding that in many states like Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam, Odisha and Bihar students are pursuing their vocational education.
He said, “Those who cannot study in college for various reasons can also take a degree from this university online. This university also has resources to recruit people for various posts, which perhaps will generate employment opportunities.”
“An organisation has shown interest to start an Open University in our state. If they start this university in the state, not only the students of the state but also the students from outside the state will be able to pursue their vocational education,” he informed the assembly.
The assembly on Wednesday also passed two other bills including ‘The Tripura State Rifles (Fourth Amendment) Bill 2023’ and another ‘Tripura State Goods and Services Tax (Seventh Amendment) Bill 2023’.
