Tripura celebrates 2568th Buddha Purnima with religious fervour

AGARTALA:

The 2,568th Buddha Jayanti Utsav and Vaishakhi Buddha Purnima is celebrated in the state of Tripura with hundreds of devotees gathered at Benuban Buddha Bihar in Agartala Kunjaban and worshipped Lord Buddha.

The monastery in Agartala is constructed during the Manikya rule of Tripura and is considered to be a significant seat of Buddhism.

Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu had inaugurated this year’s celebration here in Buddhist Monastery in Agartala. Soon after reaching the monastery, the Governor worshipped Lord Buddha and took part in the special prayer.

Inaugurating the festival, the governor said that Gautama Buddha's principles and teachings are still relevant today. He urged everyone to follow the path shown by Gautama Buddha. On the occasion, he awarded the winners of the drawing competition organized on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

Meanwhile, the secretary of Veniban Vihara in Agartala Dibyendu Chakma, founder of Dhammadeepa International Buddhist University and Acharya Dr Dhammapiya, general secretary of Buddhist Thai Bharat Society of Buddhagaya Dr Ratneshwar Bhante and DM of West Tripura district Dr Vishal Kumar among others were present.
