Along with the rest of the nation, Tripura on Saturday celebrated 15th National Voters’ Day. The main function was held here at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Saturday morning.
Chief Secretary J K Sinha has inaugurated the programme in presence of State Chief Electoral officer Brijesh Pandey, State Election Commissioner Sharadindu Chowdhury, District Magistrate of West Tripura district Dr Vishal Kumar and other officials.
Addressing the programme, the Chief Secretary J K Sinha called for a larger participation in the electoral process of the country and said that over time, elections in Tripura have turned inti a festival with the voters exercising their franchise in festive mood.
Padma Sri Deepa Karmakar was felicitated as Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Icon of the State in the function. Apart from this, felicitation was given to state's divyangjan icon para swimmer Sameer Burman and transgender icon Nupur Chakraborty. Chief Secretary JK Sinha handed over the memento to them.
Moreover, Mr. India Tourism Titaned World-2022 Mithun Debbarma as the youth icon of West Tripura district, Femina Miss India Tripura-2022 Ritika Majumder as the female icon of West Tripura district and Subrata Ganguly, retired deputy director of the Department of Parks and Soil Conservation as Divyangjan icon, were felicitated on the occasion.
National Voters' Day Pledge was recited to all present at the event. Chief Secretary JK Sinha read the oath.
Chief Secretary JK Sinha unveiled the Election Awareness Calendar, 2025 on the occasion. Moreover, a documentary film was screened on the occasion of National Voters' Day 2025. In the ceremony, the guests handed over voter ID Cards to the new voters. BLO and BLO supervisors along with officers of Election Office, District Administration, Information and Culture Department were felicitated in the event for their significant contribution in the work related to General Election 2024 and preparation of voter list. Chief Secretary JK Sinha and other guests handed over certificates to them.
