Tripura flash flood: Over 1 lakh rendered homeless; death toll rises to 25 – CM Dr Manik Saha takes ariel survey

The flood situation in Tripura, which witnessed catastrophic monsoon deluge for the first time in over three decades, slightly improved on Friday but vast areas including human habitations in urban and rural areas, still inundated.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday took an ariel survey and visited various relief camps and flood affected areas in Gomati and South Tripura districts this morning. Dr Saha interacted with the flood-affected people, who took shelter in different relief camps in both the districts and assured of all possible assistance from the government.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to ensure that there is no inconvenience to the flood-affected people. Later interacting with the reporters, CM Dr Saha said that the government will stand by the flood-affected people.

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday responded to the flood situation in Tripura and stated that the Centre approved the release of Rs 40 crore in advance, as the central share from SDRF, to provide relief to the affected people.

“Given the flood situation in Tripura, the central govt, under the leadership of Modi Ji, has approved the release of ₹40 crore in advance, as the central share from SDRF, to provide relief to the affected people,” the tweet reads.

He further stated on his tweet, “The 11 NDRF teams, 3 columns of the Army, and 4 helicopters of the Air Force deployed by the Centre are already assisting the state govt. in relief and rescue operations. No matter what, our sisters and brothers in Tripura will find the Modi govt standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them to battle these difficult times.”

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the state revenue department Brijesh Pandey said that since August 19, the government has formed 558 relief camps to shelter 1,28,000 people. He informed that the flood situation is improving slowly in the state as the rainfall in the past 24 hours has decreased, with water levels in all rivers except Gomati at Sonamura in Sepahijala district going below the danger level on Friday.
