To depict and promote the diverse culture of the state of Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday inaugurated the state’s first weekly cultural haat at Sen Para Debram Thakurpara village in the outskirts of the capital town of Agartala.
Addressing the gathering of villagers at Sen Para, the Chief Minster said that the rich cultural heritage of the state of Tripura is required to be preserved and add something new to it and promote this accordingly among the young generation.
On the other hand, MLA Ratan Chakraborty, who remained present in the inauguration programme said that a healthy culture can give rise to a healthy society. Necessary initiatives should be taken to protect the traditional culture of the state, he said, adding that Culture teaches love, not division.
He expressed hope that this culture haat will play an important role in protecting peace and harmony among people.
Secretary of the Department of Information and Culture Affairs P K Chakraborty in his speech stressed on the need of preserving languages which are disappearing and is in the verge of extinction in the age of globalization.
The Bangla Sanskriti Boloy – a social cultural organization, will run this weekly cultural haat. The cultural haat will remain open on every Sunday from 1 PM and will continue till evening. the concept of weekly cultural haat is taken from the Kolkata Shantiniketan’s Sonajhuri Haat, which is one of the most unique cultural gatherings that one can witness in their lifetime. Members of various self-help groups will display their traditional products in this haat.
