Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday launched the state level ‘Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2024’ by administering Vitamin A solution to children from six months to 60 months, oral rehydration solution (ORS) packets, and zinc tablets for infants to children aged up to five.
Addressing the launching of the campaign here at Agartala Pragna Bhavan, the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday claimed that the government has brought a massive transformation to the state’s health sector to ensure better and advanced medical care facilities for the people of Tripura.
He said, “Tripura government had signed a MoU with the Apollo hospital for free treatment of children with heart disease. In our government medical college, Medica Hospital in Kolkata, and Shija Hospitals and Research Institute in Manipur, children suffering from heart disease will be operated completely free of cost.”
“Diarrhea is basically stomach disease. Everyone should be aware of cleanliness to prevent this disease. In order to protect children from diarrheal diseases, special attention should be paid to maternal and child hygiene,” Dr Saha said, adding that the state government is organizing regular health camps at various places in the state for the purpose of awareness and health protection.
Dr Saha, who also holds the health portfolio said, “Anganwadi workers and Asha workers have to take a responsible role to convey health awareness to the people of rural areas. Regular immunization programs are going on in the state to protect children from various deadly diseases.”
The Chief Minister said that health fairs are also being organized in health centers every month to provide better health services to rural areas. He said, “There, non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer, heart disease, stroke, etc. are being treated and counseled on early detection and treatment. Under the Statewide Tuberculosis Eradication Scheme, Rs 500 is being credited directly to the patient's bank account under Nikshay Poshan Yojana every month during treatment for all tuberculosis patients to take nutritious food.”
“For the last five years, our state has been awarded the best performance among the states in India with a population of less than 50 lakhs in implementation of the TB eradication programme,” he added.
Secretary of Social Welfare and Social Education Department Tapas Roy, additional secretary of Health Department Dr Brahmit Kaur, Director of health department Dr Sanjib Debbarma and Mission Director of Tripura Branch of National Health Mission Dr Rajiv Dutta, and others were present in the programme.
