To ensure better power services across the state of Tripura, the Tripura government in a significant development has cancelled deal with the FEDCO private firm.
The state power minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday said that the private company FEDCO signed an agreement with the state government on July 1, 2020 for 10 years to provide high-quality electricity services to the consumers. But later it was found that they could not fulfill the terms of the contract properly, he told reporters.
Addressing a press conference here in the conference hall of the civil secretariat, the minister said that the FEDCO has failed to ensure better power service in the state. They were unable to render proper service that the FEDCO division franchisee was supposed to provide as per the terms of the contract. As a result, numerous complaints from customers regarding their services have been lodged and the investigation has confirmed the same, he added.
He informed that on March 4 last, FEDCO was given a notice asking them to improve the electricity service. But it has been seen that the electricity service has not improved rather got worse, following which the government was compelled to cancel the agreement made with the FEDCO.
The FEDCO was rendering services to at least 1,44,920 consumers in 10 divisions including Sabroom, Satchand, Ambasa, Gandachhara, Manu, Chamnu, Mohanpur, Hejamara, Lefunga and Bamutia.
The minister said that the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) will take over the charge to ensure better power services in the 10 divisions.
