The state transport and tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday said that the government is contemplating to make tourism as an alternate means of livelihood in the state. Adequate fund has been allocated for further developing the tourism sector, he added.
Replying to the query of MLA Mailafru Mog here in the assembly on Thursday, the tourism minister said that the tourism department has planned to develop the Mahamuni Buddhist temple under the Manu Assembly located in South Tripura. The plan includes installation of Mahamuni Buddhist Temple, Mahamuni Pagoda, Dhammadeepa International Buddhist University, Dhammadeepa School, Shakyamuni World Peace Pagoda, etc. at Bankula in Sabroom and developing a Buddhist circuit with adjacent tea gardens.
As part of this plan various Buddhist sites in South Tripura were visited by the Project Design and Management Team of the Asian Development Bank, he said, adding that the implementation of this plan will start soon if financial assistance is received from the Asian Development Bank.
In response to two separate questions by MLA Swapna Majumdar and MLA Swapna Das Pal, the Tourism Minister said that the Tourism Department is working on plans to make Chottakhala Maitri Park under Rajnagar Assembly more attractive to tourists. He said that through the second phase of the Swadesh Darshan project by the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of India, the development of the 'India-Bangladesh Maitri Udyan' tourist center has reached its final stage.
