Tripura Govt seeks Rs 150 Cr from Centre for developing tourism: Minister Sushanta Chowdhury

Aiming to further boost the tourism sector in the state, the Tripura government has submitted a proposal of Rs 150 crore to the Centre, said minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday.

Returning from Delhi, the state tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday said that a proposal of Rs 70 crore was placed with the Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for developing Jampui Hills, which include redevelopment of Eden Tourist Lodge and the introduction of adventure tourism in Jampui hills.

In addition to this, a proposal of Rs 50 crore was placed with the Centre for the Tripura Heritage Village and Sangeet Experience at Sachindranagar Colony area of Jirania subdivision, he said, adding that a proposal of Rs 30 crore was placed with the Centre for Mystic Plantation Retreat at Lakhilunga Tea Estate.

“The Union Minister assured us that these projects would be sanctioned after March,” Chowdhury told reporters. He said that since the formation of the BJP government, the Tripura government have been focusing on the development of the tourism sector. Both the central and state governments, along with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), are working together to put Tripura on the global tourism map, he added.
