Aiming to ensure health care accessibility in the state, the Tripura has taken a significant initiative of providing medical services to the children born with congenital heart diseases.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated the state-wide congenital heart disease detection camp in a programme here at Agartala Government Nursing College auditorium.
Organised by the National Health Mission in collaboration with Apollo Children's Hospital, Chennai, the camp seeks to provide critical screening services for congenital heart conditions across the state.
Addressing the programme, the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed his gratitude to the Apollo Hospitals for their partnership in this crucial initiative and called upon the healthcare professionals to ensure an effective implementation of the screening camp.
“The Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram, launched in 2014, focuses on the early detection of children suffering from congenital physical anomalies, internal defects, developmental defects, and physical disabilities,” Dr Saha said, adding that the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram program operates with 48 dedicated mobile health teams across the state, screening children from birth to six years old at Anganwadi centres and those aged six to eighteen in schools.
He said, “The dedicated mobile health team in Tripura provides primary care and, if necessary, surgical intervention for children born with various birth defects, such as congenital heart disease, hearing impairment, clubfoot, visual impairment, and neural tube defects. The state currently has three Early Intervention Centers located in Gomati, Dhalai and Unkoti districts, with plans to establish additional centers in West Tripura district.”
Dr Brahmneet Kaur, IAS and Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Professor Dr Sanjib Kumar Debbarma, Director of Health Services, Professor Dr H P Sharma, Director of Medical Education; and Dr Anjan Das, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicines and others were present in the programme.
