Tripura Govt to send special flights to airlift 208 students from violence hit Manipur

AGARTALA:

To ensure safety and security of the students of the state stranded in the violence-hit Manipur, the Tripura government has arranged three special aircrafts to airlift the stranded students back to Tripura, said Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference here at the civil secretariat, the Chief Minister said, “The three separate aircrafts will airlift total 208 students from Manipur. Of this one flight will land here at Agartala MBB airport on Saturday mid-night after airlifting 171 students studying in RIMS from Imphal, the second flight carrying 37 students of Central Agricultural University in Manipur will reach Guwahati from Imphal at midnight today and later on Sunday they will be brought back to Agartala with the third flight.”

He said that the entire cost of airlifting the students will be borne by the state government.

The initiative is taken considering the demand of the guardians of the students who met the Chief Minister at his government residence on Friday last.

The Chief Minister said that several high-level meetings have been held on the initiative of the state administration for the last two days regarding the situation in Manipur.

16th Finance Commission team to visit Tripura on Jan 29

The 16th Finance Commission headed by Chairman Arvind Panagariya would hold a series of meetings simultaneously with the Tripura government and various stakeholders such as political parties, rural and urban local bodies, and representatives of trade, Industries, and Commerce here during its four-day visit to the state from Wednesday, an official said.
