To honour the contribution made by Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the fields of statistics and economic planning, Tripura along with the rest of the nation observed the 17th National Statistics Day on Thursday. This year's theme was 'Alignment of State Indicator Framework with National Indicator Framework for Monitoring Sustainable Development Goals'.
Minister Bikash Debbarma had inaugurated the state level programme here at the state guest house on Thursday, organised by the Department of Economics and Statistics.
Addressing the gathering in the programme, the minister underlined the contributions made by Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the fields of statistics and economic planning and said that his contribution to the establishment of modern education in statistics in various universities and statistical institutes of the country was undeniable.
“In addition to the existing offices of the Department of Economics and Statistics in 4 districts in our state, the offices will be opened in 4 other districts of the state,” he said, adding that Mahalanobis believed that statistics were an integral part of the dynamics of national planning.
The minister on Thursday officially released three books of the department containing the statistical data of all the departments of Tripura.
Special Secretary of Department of Economics and Statistics Abhishek Chandra, Director of Nagendra Debbarma and Registrar of ICFAI University Dr. A. Ranganath among others were present in the programme. Students of various universities and colleges and officials of various departments were present on the occasion.

Major hike of salaries for Ministers, MLAs as bill passed in Tripura assembly
