At a time when the three new criminal laws Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam came into effect from Monday here in the state of Tripura along with the rest of the nation, the District Magistrate and Collector of the West Tripura District Dr Vishal Kumar said that over 4000 officials were trained in the three criminal laws.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala on Monday jointly with the West Tripura District Superintendent of Police Dr Kiran Kumar, the DM said that awareness programs are being organized to sensitize the people and all stakeholders about the newly enforced criminal laws.
During the press conference, both the DM and the SP of the West district highlighted various aspects of the three new laws introduced in the country on Monday. Both the officials said that these three new laws have been enacted to speed up the judicial process.
Under the new laws FIR can be lodged from anywhere irrespective of where the incident took place. Also, an e-FIR can be lodged from anywhere across the country, the officials said, adding that this Act shall apply to all judicial proceedings by electronic means.
They further added that besides, according to the new law, oral evidence will be admissible in electronic mode. This electronic testimony shall have equal importance as written direct testimony, they said.
