Telangana Governor and former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura Jishnu Dev Varma stated on Monday that a Governor should serve and act as a bridge between the state and the Centre, focusing on the overall development of both.
Addressing a civic reception program, Dev Varma remarked that Tripura is now on a path of development.
“During my tenure as Rural Development Minister in Tripura, I saw firsthand how programs like PM Awas Yojana and Self-Help Groups for women, which now number over 56,000 have benefited people. Tripura is advancing and our government along with PM Modi has always emphasized the empowerment of women. Educating and empowering a mother lead to the development of the entire family. A politician must engage with grassroots people,” he said.
Dev Varma also addressed questions from journalists about whether he plans to leave Tripura.
“Why should I leave? This is my state, where I was born. While I have been appointed as the Governor of Telangana by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I am committed to my responsibilities there. I am working in Raj Bhawan and am mindful of the security forces who work tirelessly at the borders,” he explained.
He emphasized that he views his role in Telangana as representing Tripura and its people.
“I will strive to bring positive practices from Telangana to Tripura and vice versa. I will also discuss these matters with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. The role of a Governor is to bridge the gap between states and between the state and the Centre. It is a significant responsibility. I am grateful to the President and Prime Minister for this appointment. After 75 years, Tripura is receiving a Governor and Padma Shri Awards. This is a moment of recognition that should have come earlier. Although the party is not large, the government is elected, and it should work for everyone,” he added.
