The state tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday attended the opening ceremony of the 12th edition of International Tourism Mart in Assam’s Kaziranga for the northeastern region.
International Tourism Mart is an annual event organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, designed to highlight the tourism potential of the North Eastern region for both domestic and international audiences.
Interacting with the reporters, the state tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury said, “Earlier the tourism in North East region of the country was neglected and undermined. It was after the take over of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when the tourism in North East India is discovered and explored for the tourists across the globe.”
“The Modi-led government at the Centre ahs given top most priority to the tourism sector of the country and as part of this special initiative was taken to explore the North East tourism, where multifaceted schemes were launched to revamp the tourist spots in the region including the state of Tripura,” he told reporters.
He said, “The state like Tripura we are going through tourism infrastructural development of more than Rs 500 crore.”
Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has inaugurated the event in presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, among other ministers of northeastern states.
This year’s Mart featured a variety of activities, including presentations by State Governments, B2B meetings, panel discussions on Employment, Innovation, Digitalization, Youth entrepreneurship, Vocal for Local, Women Empowerment, Case studies on Advancing Adventure Tourism, Conservation and promotion of Wildlife, Homestay, Wine Tourism, curated food demonstrations, cultural evenings, live music, a Northeast Bazaar, and technical visits to Charaideo Moidams, Rangghar, Kaziranga National Park, Hathikuli Tea Estate, and the Orchid and Biodiversity Park.
