As the state of Tripura along with the rest of the nation on Monday observed Vijay Diwas to honor the Indian Armed Forces and their victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu paid homage to the fallen soldiers here in an event at Agartala Elbert Ekka Park.
Recounting the 1971 war, which led to the independence of Bangladesh, the Governor said that at least 90000 soldiers of Pakistan surrendered in that war, which is a historic event in the world as such a massive surrender didn’t happen in any other country.
“Our brave soldiers stood in support of the supporters of Mujibur Rahman in Bangladesh and victory was achieved after a battle of 13 days,” he told reporters after paying homage to the martyred soldiers.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha took to social media on Monday to pay respect to the heroes of the 1971 War. “Today, on #VijayDiwas, we salute the bravery & sacrifices of our soldiers who fought for India’s historic victory in 1971. Their selfless dedication & unwavering resolve will forever inspire generations to come,” he posted.
