A total of 218362 voters in West Tripura district will cast their vote in the panchayat elections on August 8 next.
Addressing a press conference here in the conference hall of the DM office on Friday, the District Magistrate and also the District Election officer Dr Vishal Kumar said that the voting will begin from 7 AM and will continue till 4 Pm in Dukli, Old Agartala, Jirania, Mohanpur and Bamutia block in West Tripura district.
He said that among the total 218362 voters, 1,10,073 are male voters, 18285 are female voters and the rest of other voters.
Nomination papers will be accepted till July 18 at the office of the District Election Officer for Zilla Parishad and at the office of the concerned Returning Officer (BDO) for Gram Panchayat and Panchayat Samiti. The nomination papers will be scrutinized on July 19. Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is July 22, he told reporters.
He said that voting will be held in 45 polling stations in the district and each polling station will be equipped with drinking water facilities, electricity and sheds for the voters. Mobile number of the concerned Returning Officer (BDO) will be made public so that the voters can lodge complaints. Besides, a control room will be opened in the West Tripura District Collector's office. Counting of votes will start from 8 am on August 12.
The District Magistrate sought the cooperation of all political parties, voters and public for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Panchayat elections.
