Tripura Police on Friday arrested one person and seized banned cough syrups phensedyl worth Rs 30 lakh from Dhalai District.
The operation was carried out in the wee hours of Friday, led by Dhalai Superintendent of Police, Avinash Rai.
He said that the Dhalai District Police, along with the Tripura State Rifles and Border Security Force, acted on secret information and detained a truck en route to Agartala from West Bengal.
“When the truck reached the Ambassa naka checking point, we detained it and found it loaded with household items. However, upon conducting a search, we seized 60 cartons of banned cough syrups, specifically Phensidyl, amounting to 6,000 bottles. The market value is approximately Rs 30 lakh,” he said.
The police arrested the driver and registered a case against him.
“We presented him before the court, seeking police remand for further interrogation,” he added.
