In a significant breakthrough, the East Agartala police station has apprehended six suspects in connection with a series of thefts that occurred in several shops along Central Road. The arrests were made following an extensive investigation into the theft incidents that have alarmed local business owners.
Police said that the arrested individuals have been identified as Raju Pal, Prasenjit Sarkar, Amir Hossain, Sudeep Dey, Bhanu Debnath, and Tushar Saha. Police officials revealed that during the interrogation, the suspects confessed their involvement in the thefts. Authorities managed to recover Rs 5,000 from the group, though it is believed that the amount represents only a fraction of the stolen goods.
The Police informed that the suspects will be brought before the court and subsequently remanded in police custody for further questioning. Investigators are keen to uncover the whereabouts of the remaining stolen items and to identify any additional accomplices involved in the theft ring.
According to the SDPO Sadar DP Roy, there are concerns that these individuals may have been involved in numerous other thefts throughout Agartala. Reports suggest that this group has been particularly active in the lead-up to Durga Puja, a festive season marked by increased shopping and gatherings.
