The sacred Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, Gomati District, is abuzz with preparations as it readies itself for the grand Diwali Mela, set to commence on October 31. This year, the temple, one of India’s 51 Shakti Peethas, is anticipated to host an unprecedented crowd, with over 7 lakh devotees expected to attend during the festive season.
Nestled atop a hill resembling a turtle’s back, the Tripura Sundari Temple holds a revered position among Hindu pilgrimage sites. Built in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya Bahadur following a divine vision from ‘Aadishakti’ herself, the temple is a cornerstone of devotion in Tripura and has a rich history chronicled in the royal Rajmala of the Manikya dynasty.
Abhishek Debroy, the MLA of Mata Bari Legislative Assembly and Chair of the Mata Bari Mela Committee, highlighted that festival preparations are in full swing. "Approximately 90% of the temple beautification is complete," he shared, noting the extensive round-the-clock efforts underway to illuminate the entire temple precinct. Special trains have been arranged to accommodate the influx of pilgrims, and cultural performances will feature renowned artists from Tripura and beyond.
The spirit of devotion is matched by heightened security measures this year. Additional Superintendent of Police Souvik De confirmed the presence of over 2,000 personnel to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration. DGP Amitabh Ranjan, along with other senior officers, has inspected the arrangements, which include 1,750 Tripura State Rifles jawans, 300 Tripura Police officers from other districts, and 200 personnel from Gomati District. CCTV surveillance and drone monitoring will provide additional security, promising a well-coordinated and secure environment for devotees.
The upcoming Diwali Mela at the Tripura Sundari Temple promises to be a captivating blend of devotion, culture, and community, drawing the faithful from across the state and beyond.
