Tripura to get 6 heliports under UDAN scheme; Agartala-Chittagong international flight service from June: Transport Minister

The state transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday said that considering the demand of the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry has shortlisted six heliports in different locations of the state so as to boost the tourism sector of the state.

Addressing a press conference here at the civil secretariat on Tuesday, the minister said that during his visit to Delhi, the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha demanded the union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for establishing 6 heliports in the state so as to boost the tourism sector. In view of this the minister in his letter to the Chief Minister had informed that the ministry had shortlisted 6 heliports in Matabari, Amarpur, Narikel Kunj, Kawnpui and others under the UDAN Scheme.

“The Union Minister’s letter to the Chief Minister also mentioned that the Kailasahar airport in Unakoti district of the state have been brought for its development among the 50 airports across the nation,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, the transport said, “The Union Civil Aviation minister Scindia also mentioned that once flight services between Agartala and Chittagong in Bangladesh begins, the airport will be declared as international one. The international flight service between Agartala and Chittagong in Bangladesh will start in the first week of June next month and the work of setting up Customs and Immigration services are in progress.”
