Tripura tops among NE states in TB Free India campaign

Tripura scored the highest among the North Eastern states in the 21-day Tuberculosis Free India campaign in the state.

According to the report of the Union Ministry, Tripura has been recognized as the second-best state in the country by scoring 76 marks. During the 21-day campaign, door-to-door active case finding means health workers collect sputum samples in their respective areas and share awareness messages about tuberculosis.

“Tripura is the best among North Eastern states in Medical College Performance in National Tuberculosis Eradication Program. On May 30, 2023, the Zonal Task Force meeting at Guwahati reviewed the performance of all government and private medical colleges in the North-East on various indicators of the National Tuberculosis Eradication Programme. Tripura was declared the best on the basis of performance”, said a press release from National Health Mission.

It further said that Tripura has been recognized as the best state among North Eastern states in medical college performance in the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program.

“According to the published TB India Report 2022, Tripura has been named the second best state in the country among the states with a population of less than 50 lakhs. Tripura ranks after Sikkim. Significant progress is being made in eliminating TB from Tripura by 2025. Tuberculosis eradication programs have been strengthened across the state with the support of the National Health Mission”, said the press release.

Tripura is gradually moving towards TB eradication through the proper implementation of the nine prescribed indicators for TB eradication. Already in 2022, Tripura has been commended and got a bronze medal in the index titled 'Towards the Progress in TB Free Status'. State Tuberculosis Officer Dr Nupur Debbarma said that the tuberculosis detection program will be strengthened in July.

“Initiatives have been taken to make Tripura TB free by 2025 as per the policy announced by the Prime Minister. It is to be noted that on May 24, Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha called for the establishment of tuberculosis-free panchayats in the state”, the press release.
