Tripura has witnessed highest ever 155183 tourists footfalls during the three months of the year 2023 from October to December while the BJP-led coalition government in Tripura is contemplating to boost the tourism sector of the state.
Addressing a press conference here at the civil secretariat on Thursday evening, the state tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury said, “Since after the former captain of Indian cricket team Sourav Ganguly became the brand ambassador of Tripura tourism, the state witnessed 155183 tourists during the three months from October to December in the financial year 2023-24. The figure of tourist footfalls rested at 84217 during the three months of the previous 2022-23 financial year.”
Expressing his hope of an increase in the rate of tourists in the coming days, the minister said that the government has taken multifaceted initiatives to boost the state tourism and enhance livelihood and earning opportunities from the sector. He said that initially a project was undertaken to establish at least 51 log huts in different tourist destinations of the state. Out of these 41 log huts were build and the rest 10 will be launched soon to facilitate the tourists, he added.
“Recently it has been decided to build at least 11 home stay facilities in Narikel Kunja and 4 home stays in Jampui Hills. Government is planning to launch such home stays in different districts of the state in the coming days,” he said, adding that the government is contemplating to constitute a home stay policy.
He said that under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme of the Ministry of DoNER, the government is planning to open at least four more islands – Chittapara, Amalyasadhan Para, Twin island and others for tourists in the surrounding areas of Narikel Kunja. Preparation of DPR in his regard is in progress while the government has recently received an approval amounting to Rs. 30 crore from the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme, he told reporters.
Meanwhile, the minister informed that the government with assistance from the Asian Development Bank is aimed to develop tourism infrastructure in Chabimura, Sonamukhi area in Kailasahar, Chaturdash Devta Temple and Kashba Kali Temple to attract more tourists in the state.
