Truck drivers hold protest in Khayerpur over various demands

AGARTALA:

As part of the nationwide protest the truck drivers in Khayerpur have launched a protest aimed at drawing attention to the numerous challenges faced by these drivers on a daily basis and saw participants airing their grievances and demanding solutions to long-standing issues.

During the demonstration at Bypass Road in Khayerpur drivers expressed frustration over a range of problems citing police harassment entry restrictions at the Churaibari gate and a lack of essential facilities such as parking and toilets along the route. The truckers who hold valid state licenses raised concerns about being compelled to enter at the Churaibari gate where they alleged instances of police brutality.

One driver representing the collective voice of the protesters stated, "We are constantly harassed during our journeys, facing difficulties ranging from entry restrictions to inadequate facilities on the route. Despite possessing state licenses, we are subjected to unwarranted police actions."

The drivers presented a comprehensive 29-point demand at the all-India level addressing issues related to their profession and the challenges encountered during the import and export of various goods. Among these demands the need for improved infrastructure better policing practices and streamlined entry procedures featured prominently.
