TSF organized widespread protests across various locations today, marking January 8 as Black Day in opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Bill. The leaders of the organization took to the streets, particularly demonstrating in the North Gate area of the capital this morning.
The significance of January 8 dates back to 2019 when TSF initiated protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill introduced by the Central Government. In response to the bill, a state-wide bandh was called in Tripura, culminating in clashes between protesters and police forces in Madhab Bari. The events on that fateful day led to the declaration of January 8 as Black Day by TSF, symbolizing their ongoing resistance against the contentious legislation.
Speaking about the commemoration, a student representative of TSF stated, "Today, we observe Black Day to remember the sacrifices made by our members in the fight against the Citizenship Amendment Bill. The events of January 8, 2019, in Madhab Bari serve as a stark reminder of the challenges we face in defending our principles and values."
