In a tragic turn of events late Wednesday night, one Tripura State Rifles jawan identified as Sandana Darlong, met with a fatal accident while on duty in the vicinity of Baghan School near Churaibari Police jurisdiction in North Distrct.
Sources said that after 11:00 pm, TSR Darlong was engaged in election-related activities at Naka Point when he attempted to intercept a speeding pulsar bike without a number plate. In a reckless move, the rider of the bike intentionally collided with Officer Darlong, causing severe injuries.
Despite immediate medical attention at Kadamtala Social Health Center, Darlong's condition worsened, prompting a transfer to North District Hospital in Dharmanagar. Tragically, Darlong succumbed to his injuries upon arrival, confirmed by North District Superintendent of Police, Bhanupada Chakraborty.
Authorities revealed that the incident underscores the ongoing menace of agar smugglers in the Kadamtala Kurti area, as the bike involved was reportedly en route from Tripura to Assam, carrying a significant quantity of agarwood. Moreover, it was noted that the perpetrators, allegedly linked to the smuggling trade, remain a significant threat to public safety, even posing a formidable challenge to law enforcement agencies like the TSR.
While, the bike riders are currently hospitalized, battling life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident. Police have initiated investigations into it.
