The rising tide of thefts and robberies in the smart city continues to plague residents, despite repeated arrests of known criminal gangs.
In a recent breakthrough, the East Agartala Police Station arrested two robbers and they were found in possession of 10 stolen mobile phones. The arrests came following a complaint filed by Krishna Majumdar, a local resident of Maharajganj Bazar, who reported being robbed of his mobile phone while on his way home from the market.
Upon receiving the complaint, a police team was swiftly formed to investigate the matter. Through diligent efforts, the police were able to identify the culprits and apprehend two members of the robbery gang, Sudip Das from Jogendra Nagar Renters Colony and Subrata Das from Pratapgarh.
The police also recovered 10 smartphones, believed to have been stolen during their criminal activities.
In addition, the motorcycle used by the robbers during the theft was seized as part of the investigation.
The accused have been handed over to the court, with a request for police remand pending.
Despite these arrests, the increase in such incidents continues to frustrate local residents, who are growing increasingly concerned about their safety.
The police are working tirelessly to curb the rising crime rate, but the issue remains a significant challenge for East Agartala.
