Two held with Heroin worth Rs 2 Crore at Dharmanagar

Tripura Police on Wednesday arrested two persons and seized heroin worth Rs 2 crore from Dharmanagar Sub-division of Tripura's North District.

Tripura's North District shares an interstate boundary with Assam and Mizoram.

Speaking with reporters, North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty said that they had a tip-off about smuggling of heroin from Mizoram to Tripura.

"Based on secret information, we detained one vehicle at Dharmanagar. When we searched the vehicle, we seized 17 pouches carrying more than 200 grams of heroin. The market price would be more than Rs 2 crore," said the SP.

He said that they have arrested two persons identified as Javed Ali (30) and Joydul Hossain (30), both residents of Boxanagar under Sepahijala district.

"We seized the vehicle and during preliminary investigations, they revealed that they brought the heroin from Mizoram to smuggle it into Khowai," he said.
