Two held with Heroin worth Rs 4 Crore at Dharmanagar

Tripura Police on Sunday late evening have arrested two persons and seized heroin worth Rs 4 crore from Bagbasa in the North District of the state.

North District shares an interstate border with Assam and Mizoram.

Speaking with reporters, North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty said that based on a tip-off, they detained a vehicle without a number plate from which the police seized the drugs.

“In Bagbasa, we detained a vehicle without a number plate. When we searched the vehicle, we found 36 soap boxes containing 408 grams of heroin. We have arrested two persons identified as Sohel Mia (23) and Dilwar Hossain (35), both residents of the Sonamura Sub-division in Tripura’s Sepahijala District. We have seized the drugs and the vehicle,” he said.

Tripura’s Sepahijala District shares-large portion of the international border with Bangladesh.

The SP stated that the black market value of these drugs is worth Rs 4 crore.
 “According to their statement, they claimed that they brought the drugs from Silchar in Assam to smuggle them somewhere else. We are investigating it,” he said.
