Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Sunday hailed the Union Budget 2025 as a progressive and development-oriented financial plan that will significantly benefit the Northeast region.
Reacting to the budget, Singha Roy stated that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has presented a well-timed and growth-centric budget. "This budget encompasses provisions aimed at fostering progress and development for people across all sections of society. It will contribute to economic growth, with a special focus on the Northeast," he said.
He highlighted that nearly 47% of the total allocation has been earmarked for the Northeast region, ensuring substantial benefits for states like Tripura. Additionally, the budget emphasizes the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and investments. "In India, agriculture plays a pivotal role, employing a significant portion of the population. In Tripura alone, around 60% of people are engaged in agriculture. This budget will positively impact over one crore farmers across the country," he noted.
The Finance Minister underscored the government's consistent prioritization of crucial sectors such as health, education, agriculture, MSMEs, women, and youth. "This year is no exception. I extend my gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Finance Minister for their special initiatives for the middle class, particularly the provision that exempts individuals earning up to ₹12 lakh from paying income tax," he remarked.
He further pointed out key initiatives in the budget, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, aimed at ensuring clean drinking water for all. Additionally, cancer treatment centers will be established in every district nationwide, reflecting the government's commitment to healthcare.
Singha Roy emphasized that the budget leaves no sector behind, addressing the concerns of senior citizens and laborers while strengthening the middle-class population. "This budget is a step toward realizing the vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, and Vikshit Bharat," he concluded.
