The Tripura Bar Council on Monday expressed concern over the ‘anti-India’ remark allegedly made by the union law minister Kiren Rijiju against retired judges and termed the remark as ‘dangerous’ for the Indian judiciary system.
Senior advocate and also the president of Tripura Bar Council Purushottom Roy Barman alleged, “With the remark of union law minister Kiren Rijiju, we do believe that the Centre which is making a dictatorial rule in the nation is trying to intervene in the Indian judiciary system.”
The Union minister Kiren Rijiju, Saturday in a conclave by a national media had claimed that a few retired judges and some activists who are “part of the anti-India gang” are trying to make the Indian judiciary play the role of the opposition party.
He alleged, “The Centre is trying to capture all kinds of institutions in the nation including the Indian judiciary system also,” he alleged.
On the other hand, the senior advocates of the Tripura High Court had written to the Chief Justice of India Dr. Justice D Y Chandrachud and other members of the collegium to demand appointment of permanent Chief Justice of Tripura High Court and filling up vacant posts of judges of the High Court.
The advocates demanded appointment of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh as the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court in terms of Collegium recommendation made on February 7 this year. The advocates in their letter stated that till date the Collegium recommendation for appointing Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh as Chief Justice of Tripura High Court, has not been acted upon by the Central government.
