In a tragic incident in South Twiwandal in Sepahijala district on Saturday, 1 person died while cleaning a well of Neoramura J B School under the Mirza Kathalia Constituency, while two others died while rescuing the deceased from the well.
The incident took place after a labour on request of a teacher of the Neoramura J B School climbed down into the well to clean it and later as he died in the well after he failed to climb up. Following this, two other labourers climbed down into the well to rescue the deceased labour and later they also died in the well.
The deceased tribal youths were identified as Sukrumani Murasing (37), Sambhu Debbarma (30), and Ashok Tripura (21).
"The water was not there so much, it was drained out using a pump, but when one laborer went inside the well, he all of a sudden fell down. Later, two other laborers who were there rushed in and went down to rescue him, but unfortunately, both of them also died," said locals. The locals suspected that due to lack of oxygen in the well, the three died of suffocation.
Alarmed by the incident the fire engine crews rushed to the spot and recovered the three bodies from the well. The bodies were taken to Melaghar Hospital, where doctors declared all three dead.
