A gruesome murder in Maheshkhala, West Tripura District, has shocked the local community. On Saturday, a married woman, Kalpana Debnath was found dead in what police believe to be a premeditated crime stemming from an alleged extramarital affair.
According to police sources, Kalpana, originally from Jogendra Nagar, had been living with Shankar Sutradhar as a tenant in Maheshkhala. Kalpana reportedly left her children behind several months ago to move in with Shankar, with whom she was allegedly in a relationship.
The tragic incident came to light on Saturday morning when Kalpana’s daughter received word of her mother’s death. Rushing to the scene, she discovered her mother’s lifeless body lying on the ground, while Shankar sat nearby on a bed, seemingly indifferent. The daughter’s anguished cries attracted the attention of neighbors, who quickly gathered at the residence. The situation escalated further when Shankar’s wife arrived, confronting him over his alleged affair. Amid the commotion, locals detained Shankar, tied him up, and contacted the police.
Officers from AD Nagar Police Station soon arrived, arrested Shankar and began securing the area for forensic examination. “Kalpana’s body has been sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy, and an investigation into the murder is ongoing,” confirmed a police official.
