A protest led by the Youth Congress turned tense on Monday as party members clashed with police over the recent cancellation of the recruitment process for fireman and driver posts under the Tripura Fire Service.
The protest march, which started from the Congress Bhavan, moved through key areas of the city before being intercepted by police personnel. The situation escalated when officers tried to disperse the procession, resulting in scuffles. Several protestors were detained and later taken to the AD Nagar Police Lines.
Youth Congress President Neelkamal Saha spearheaded the agitation, accusing the BJP-led state government of betraying the aspirations of unemployed youth. "This is not merely mismanagement—it’s a betrayal. The BJP government continues to play with the future of our young people by cancelling recruitment drives without reason," Saha said.
He highlighted that the recruitment notification for the posts was first issued in 2022, followed by physical and written examinations. "Now, after three years, it has been cancelled without explanation. Why? What corruption is the government trying to cover up?" he asked.
The Youth Congress has called for an independent investigation into the abrupt cancellation and demanded accountability from those responsible for what they allege to be systemic irregularities.
